I turned the pages so fast I forgot I was reading a literary novel. Extreme tension combines with McEwan's sublime prose to make Saturday a thrill to read. Highly recommended. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds

Sweet And Vicious is just that, not to mention savory and wicked and very funny, too. I should add fast and fun but never dumb. Bonnie and Clyde get a breezy update from the author of the much-acclaimed Kissing In Manhattan. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds

This is a chilling look at a murder that occurred in the neighborhood of the author's childhood, a period in which Boston was terrorized by a serial killer, and a fascinating analysis of how justice is and is not done. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds

Whether you are put off or amused by the title, be prepared for a superb reading experience. Flynn writes in a unique style about a troubled childhood and an alcoholic, homeless father who re-enters his life after years of estrangement. In the crowded field of literary memoirs, Nick Flynn's story is a stand out. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds

It has been 20 years since Pearson's stunning debut novel, A Short History of a Small Place. Here, finally, is the true sequel and I am extremely grateful for it. Young Louis Benfield, formerly of Neely, North Carolina, is now grown up and seeking (but not very hard) fulfillment in New York City. His meanderings take him through a brief stint as an insurance company actuary, handyman to a Long Island mobster, small-time commercial actor and driver for a Yemeni car service. In this sad but hilarious story of a young man going nowhere, Pearson is as fresh and funny as ever. His is an entirely original voice in contemporary American fiction. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds

Not just my favorite southern writer, but my favorite author, period. Pearson is a true original. He is an outrageously gifted storyteller with a style all his own. Short History is the first installment of the Neeley, N.C. trilogy and I think the best. It was this book, having read it when I was in my mid-twenties, that turned me into a full-time reader and therefore holds the place in my heart occupied by a precious few titles. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds
