I was taken completely by surprise by this deeply intelligent, page-turning novel about a family at sea. Underlying the joy of island hopping is a sense of dread the reader perceives from the first page. The well-paced story and the need to find out "what the hell happened out there" is somehow outshone by Gaige's prose. Her perfectly selected words in the service of impossibly perfect sentences was a marvel throughout. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds

California and Oregon in the last quarter of the 20th century. A notorious cult. Drug abuse. Aside from a turbulent upbringing, Mikel Jollett's amazing memoir has almost nothing in common with Angela's Ashes. And yet. Reading Hollywood Park reminded me of my experience reading Frank McCourt's stunning first memoir. Which is to say, I very highly recommend it. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds

I consider myself normal when it comes to wine. Meaning, I know my colors and whether I like something or not. But the rest is confounding. UNTIL NOW. Demystifying and "de-snobbifying" buying, sipping, and pairing as well as providing entertaining lessons on geography and wine making, this is the wine book for all the normal people. Great price!! I'll drink to that. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds

Joni created a handmade book to give to her friends for Christmas in 1971. It contained handwritten lyrics and many of her drawings. Here it is beautifully reproduced in full color on high quality paper as a gift to all those who love her art. Read the words as she wrote them down in her own hand, and you can hear the voice.
