This engrossing novel follows the prestigious-to-various degrees Burgess family, reluctantly brought together by a hate crime committed by a young nephew. The real story, however, becomes the complicated dynamics between the older generation of siblings and the truth behind one sibling in particular's "perfect" life, as well as the devastating impact of the nephew's actions on a small Maine town. Beautifully written and an eerily accurate portrait of life in Maine. ~ Reviewed by Sarah Walcott

Hands down the best novel I've read this year. Set in Vietman-era upstate New York, the story follows the friendship of two high school kids - a fighter and a runner - as they navigate the time, their dysfunctional families, and life in general. Billed as coming-of-age story, Brewster is a lot more than that; a rough story with a lot of sadness, a lot of hope and an uplifting overall message: even if you lose the race, run it anyway. ~ Reviewed by Sarah Walcott

This is a GREAT weekend read - a light(ish) and highly entertaining novel about two psychic twin sisters, one of whom has embraced her capabilities and the other who has done everything she can to hide them. The twist here is that the protagonist can often be one of the more frustrating characters, which serves to give the story an added level of depth and interest. ~ Reviewed by Sarah Walcott

Poignant and morally complex - this is a heartbreaker, and an excellent read. A really beautiful look at the gray area between right and wrong and the true meaning of family. One of my favorites of the summer! ~ Reviewed by Sarah Walcott
