Deep River is my favorite kind of book, rich in history, a big family saga! The story follows members of the Koski family who left Finland and settled in the Pacific Northwest in the early 1900s embedding their lives in the logging industry. It's rich with personal trials, politics and memorable characters and is a book you can get lost in for hours!
A beautifully written WWI story about love, the horrors of war and decisions made, right or wrong. Riveting and atmospheric! If you loved All the Light We Cannot See, this book is for you! ~ Reviewed by Liz Barnum
Three different men, three different stories with one connecting thread. The stories are beautifully written, powerful and heartbreaking. Donal Ryan is a master at his craft. ~ Reviewed by Liz Barnum
Cherry is an explosive gut punch of a story that never lets up! The characters, their warped relationships with one another and their conversations were so vivid and realistic it was unsettling. I was hooked from the very first page. It’s a perfect portrayal of the endless cycle of addiction, PTSD and a failed support system. The desperation these characters clung to each other with, the constant planning around the next “fix” to the point where nothing else matters was intense and arresting. Nico Walker you really did send it home! ~ Reviewed by Liz Barnum
It’s 2007 and Jende and Nemi Jonga, immigrants from Cameroon, are working hard to achieve “the American Dream”. They have jobs, and ambitions and are full of optimism and then the recession hits. Engrossing, powerful and emotional! ~ Reviewed by Liz Barmum
