The journey continues, taking Otto and Rinpoche on another road trip. Both physical and spiritual discovery drive the story, but the real meat of this novel is an understated series of lessons for living, dying and making sense of the world and one's place in it. Told with humor, wonder and wisdom, the reader is invited to experience the comfort of self knowledge and hope. ~ Reviewed by Karen Frank

Still my favorite period for a good historical fiction read, this story takes place during the Edwardian sunset and is packed with great characters and an atmosphere that draws the reader into the gossamer England of the prewar era. With historical hindsight, we know that life will never be the same for anyone. Even as the dread of the coming conflict builds, we can’t help but cherish the values and lifestyle and wish there had been a different outcome. ~ Reviewed by Karen Frank

The lilt and the cadence of this one of a kind gem is Irish music for the mind. All of the characters are dead- yet they continue their bickering and bantering in the underworld as if existence was a circular phenomenon...past, present and future. A delightful and revealing look at humanity and the enchanting and exasperating nature of the Irish. ~ Reviewed by Karen Frank

Timeless themes of man against nature, man against man and man against self play out in this complex novel spanning generations in a small town adjoining the Minnesota wilderness. Brutally beautiful and emotionally powerful, each character reveals a bit of the story until the tendrils of this bit of history finally tighten and resolve. ~ Reviewed by Karen Frank

This is a superbly crafted memoir, incredibly original in its depth and visceral impact. The author swings back and forth between her own desire to train a goshawk and her research of that same need documented by T. H. White. Self deprecating humor vies with wonder and grief as she manages to make the reader see, hear and feel every aspect of this incredible journey. A marvelous read. ~ Reviewed by Karen Frank

A splendid, tightly plotted novel about relationships within family that might make you rethink nature vs.nurture. Fraught with perils of the most everyday kind, it is also packed with sweetness and truth. Revelations take the characters (and the reader) by surprise as the significance of the various threads becomes apparent. The story does not end with the last sentence and we are allowed to imagine the very satisfying conclusion. ~ Reviewed by Karen Frank
