The Blue Girl of this story is a special entity that shapes the young narrator of the story in ways unimaginable. The art is created in mixed media. Negley mixes art, fantasy and science together to make a book that is fiction but is also based on the life of scientist Poul la Cour. A scientist who helped with the invention of wind turbines. ~ Reviewed by Jeanette

A nonfiction story about the life of a robin and its family. This book would be a great tie-in for an older classroom science curriculum. Yet, the younger reader can enjoy as much. This is a book that can grow with your child: first as a read-to-book, then to read solo (or with a bit of help) and finally the tie-in to science. The reader needs to pay close attention to where (and what) color is used. The reason for the color used might not be clear at first, but they make the entire book quite poetic to look at. ~ Reviewed by Jeanette

Want a fun story about having a knack with nature; a young girl who is a little anxious in the "real world" and who finally sees how once she was a wallflower but now she is a wildflower? Then this is the book for you! Poppy loves nature and can be found carrying on conversations with her wildlife friends. But she is also terribly uncomfortable with people. At parties she turns into flowers, landscapes, trees; any other background she can find to hide in. It is not until a special birthday party and a special bug friend help Poppy come out of her shell. Then not only her family but she sees how much of a wildflower she is, Poppy does, too. Must see funny, bright sweet illustrations. ~ Reviewed by Jeanette

Mixing the classic coming-of-age story of trying to fit in but cannot all with modern elements. There are puns, bad jokes and aliens. Some breath oxygen others methane. There are aliens that look like parrots and others who like Chef’s Surprise for lunch. There is the typical camp humor, the obtaining of badges like teleportation, building robots and study of scat. But the main theme that of friendship and working together. Fun, bright, rich illustrations complement the text and help move the story along. ~ Reviewed by Jeanette
