A grad student at Harvard Divinity school is humorously, but at first maddeningly, self-deprecating. The beauty of this story is how she evolves into a whole and healed human being, capable of love and being loved. While sinking under the weight of her thesis topic decision, she is rescued by the colorful array of female addicts she is ostensibly studying at a halfway house. Sad, funny & heartwarming. ~ Reviewed by Heather Bellanca

Poetically captures the tranquility of pace in the Swedish countryside. A lovely, engaging story of 2 women from different generations, living in isolation, nursing ancient love-wounds. How they intersect, revealing themselves carefully to each other, and the reader is the magic of it. ~ Reviewed by Heather Bellanca

A fascinating tale of mystery set in New Mexico during WWII. Many threads of tension about the outcome of the war, the survival of brother at war, and a lover on the lam from the Los Alamos project kept me from putting this book down. Left me with a distinct flavor of life in the New Mexico desert. ~ Reviewed by Heather Bellanca

A rich historical tapestry is created of England's Restoration period. The main character, Alice, of the queen's court, is a clever, testy and devoted servant to her queen. She bravely steps on toes and alienates allies to see that right is done.  A romance is brewing throughout, while murders occur and the politics between the courts of France and England ebb and flow. A great read for fans of historical fiction cum romance and mystery. ~ Reviewed by Heather Bellanca

A wonderful novel with an intriguing mystery starring a wonderful pip of an Irish girl, of dubious origins, who comes to be hired as a servant by a beautiful, but strange mistress of the manor. Set in Scotland when the Irish were considered subhuman, and servants barely superior to that. Bessy's humor and language is a delight as she navigates her precarious role in this odd household. I would rank this up there with my current top 3 favorites. My 16-year old daughter consumed it in about one sitting. ~ Reviewed by Heather Bellanca

Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show toured Europe with Black Elk, a Native American healer, who was a fascinating draw for the Parisians of the era of the "noble-savage worshipper", Henri Rousseau. Based on this fact, the author has created a story around an iconoclastic young woman of society and her bachelor friend and family doctor who befriend Black Elk. A poignant tale of the ways they try to help each other with the struggle to feel at home in a rigid society. A fascinating premise, well-written. ~ Reviewed by Heather Bellanca
