This is a retelling of the Brothers Grimm Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, but it is no Disney version. Told as a flashback by one of the Queen’s attendants, it paints a much darker picture than some of the portrayals we may be used to. In addition to the expected characters, many new ones make their appearances, and there are side stories and a twist at the end, as well.

Those who love fairy tales will not be disappointed. ~ Reviewed by Gail King

A haunting and poignant work of historical fiction, this is the story of a young woman who disguises herself as a man and follows her husband to fight in the Civil War. Told in powerful first person narration, Rosetta Wakefield (aka Ross Stone)’s strong, determined voice is transposed over the horrors of war. This novel stayed with me long after I turned the last page. ~ Reviewed by Gail King

This suspenseful must-read tells the story of literary agent Isabel Reed who receives a manuscript from an anonymous author. The manuscript is an exposé of a major media mogul, revealing a crime he committed and covered up as a college student and his complicity with the CIA in creating a number of international scandals beneficial to both his media empire and US foreign interests. As it becomes apparent that those who have access to the manuscript are in mortal danger, the agent must decide whether or not to publish the potentially explosive work.

The novel is full of twists and turns and surprises right to the last page. Pavone definitely puts the "thrill" in thriller with this fast-paced read. ~ Reviewed by Gail King

This debut novel is the story of twenty-seven year old Daisy Richmond who beat breast cancer three years ago, only to have it return with a vengeance as an aggressive stage IV diagnosis. As she tries to come to terms with the fact that she is dying - and probably soon - she realizes that one of her greatest worries is what will happen to her charming but disorganized husband, Jack, after she is gone. So she embarks on a campaign to find him his next wife.

Although this could have been a dreadful novel in the hands of another writer, it is actually a funny, poignant, genuine story - sad but not maudlin or overly sentimental. I recommend it. ~ Reviewed by Gail King

At the center of this absorbing thriller is Rachel, the girl on the train, who fantasizes about a couple she observes out the train window as she commutes back and forth to London. It is also the real story of that couple, as well as the story of a person who goes missing. Throughout the novel, I had trouble determining who was a reliable narrator and who wasn't. And I wasn't quite prepared for the ending. I strongly recommend this compelling read. ~ Reviewed by Gail King
