A morbidly fun collection of essays, perfect for pick up and go reading. As the title suggests, this is a look at performers who unfortunately met their demise in the most public of arenas. Even my kid liked this one, so I guess it's family friendly, if you're into that kind thing. ~ Reviewed by Chris Linendoll

The first definitive biography of the seminal Seattle grunge band. AiC perfectly blended the wailing vocals of metal with the deep grooves of alternative rock and broke big before people knew what Teen Spirit smelled like. The author dives deep into the history of the first incarnation of the band via hundreds of interviews with dozens of those who knew the band best. Most of the pages are devoted to Layne Staley's years fronting AiC, although there is nice epilouge giving well deserved praise to William DuVall, who took over vocal duties after Staley's rock'n'roll exile and eventual drug related demise. ~ Reviewed by Chris Linendoll

The next in a recent deluge of biographies of the legendary "8 foot tall" giant of the world of pro wrestling and entertainment. Hebert seeks to separate truth from fiction in this all-encompassing biography, but the minutiae of facts and dates often bog down the narrative. The writing won't win any awards, but fans of Andre may want to add this to their collection. ~ Reviewed by Chris Linendoll

Lucy Knisley has already established herself as one of the premier graphic novelists of this generation with her many graphic memoirs. Stepping Stones is her first in a series of mid-child fiction, but is still deeply rooted in Knisley's real life experiences. Illustrations are clear and colorful, and each character is well rounded. A quick read, but one that will be enjoyed by a large age group, including her many adult fans. ~ Reviewed by Chris Linendoll

The author of the excellent Ghostland turns his critical eye towards the cryptids and legends of American history. Dickey presents the myths and facts with a clear, nonjudgmental tone, and digs deep into the many sources of inspiration that can often meld together to form a tall tale. Another hit from this author. ~ Reviewed by Chris Linendoll
