Milosz writes in the introduction that his selections are "short, clear, readable, and, to use a compromised term, realist," making this a great collection for beginning to practiced poetry readers. I most love his introductions to sections like "Nature", "Travel", and "Non-attachment" and to the poems themselves. His comments elucidate the work and add charm with a friendly, knowledgeable, honest voice. ~ Reviewed by Carol Graser

Had Pines written a memoir simply of his ow exploits to define himself and his art, this book would be fascinating enough. Entwined with his brother's encroaching mental illness and his struggle to guide him through it, it becomes a beautiful, moving and healing read. ~ Reviewed by Carol Graser

In these poems of landscape and nature, childhood memories and self-aware asides, Twichell offers an intimate voice of companionship. The movement from early work to the most recent is fascinating. A great book to refer to and reread. ~ Reviewed by Carol Graser

Carol Graser - Bookseller in Saratoga Springs

Carol reads a good bit of poetry and like many poetry readers, she also writes. Sometimes her work gets published and sometimes people invite her to read in front of an audience, which she loves to do. Since 2003 she’s been the host of a monthly poetry series at Caffe Lena on first Wednesdays (please check it out sometime!) that features one or two poets and includes an open mic.

The universe is made of stories, not of atoms. - Muriel Rukeyser

In this memoir of community set in the rural south, Ward remembers five young men close to her who died in four years. She painstakingly traces each death back to a history of racism and economic struggle, channeling her grief into beautiful, precise language. ~ Reviewed by Carol Graser
