Baggage picks up after Not My Father’s Son that had dealt with the trauma of his abusive childhood, and launches us into Cumming’s formative years and into his years of success on stage and screen. He takes us behind the scenes on many a Hollywood movie, West End and Broadway play and makes it feel like he’s taking us into his confidence, whispering secrets in our ears, and generously shares his creative highs and sometimes personal lows.
Full of joy, tears, discovery, love and amazing anecdotes, Cumming has penned the perfect memoir, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty

An excellent memoir that brings to life vividly the inner workings of a neurodivergent mind. Schiller really shows us how one mind can work differently to others, to the “norm”, in a most beautiful, raw, and authentic way. Having recently moved her young family into a new way of life, on a smallholding with vegetable beds, chickens and goats to look after, she is not only finding her feet in nature, but also undergoing many medical tests to find the right diagnosis for her. Laid out month by month, we join Schiller throughout the year that brings her to that knowledge and the changes it brings. I Highly Recommend! ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty

A fast paced, labyrinthine, debut novel that hooks you from the start. Ronke, Boo and Simi are the best of friends, a tight group filled with love and encouragement for each other. However, when an old school friend from Nigeria turns up out of the blue, and wants to become the fourth member, things start to go wrong for all of them. Deftly drawing in the history and culture from their shared experiences as British-Nigerian women, as well as exploring their different relationships, and attitudes towards motherhood, this is a whole lot of novel, and paired with the slow burn, and gently unnerving feeling May builds throughout, I could not put this book down. ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty

What an absolute treat this book is! Shafak draws us into the history of a family, and of the island of Cyprus through a young girl called Ada, as she’s navigating the world after her mother dies. Interwoven stories feed us snippets of the past and present, so that a fully formed picture emerges, and it is a beautiful, heartbreaking, epic, sweeping landscape. It explores the lushness of nature, the extremes of human capacity for hatred and compassion, and the idea of an inherited trauma, or memory. I highly, highly recommend it. ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty

I adored this book! It is a tale of friendship and the healing qualities of nature, beauty and art.
We spend a gentle, honey hued summer with Calvert and Redbone, as they strive to create their crop circle masterpieces, in secret, under the light of the moon. Their goal is to create new myths, and draw people’s attention to the endangered countryside. It philosophizes along the way about war, trauma, class inequalities, poverty, and forming a life outside of the norm. It is written with great hope, compassion and a poetic style. Glorious! ~ Reviewed by Becky Chambers
