I quite simply adored this book!
Luc O’Donnell is famous, for being the more than a little messed up son of rock star parents, and his life is quickly spiralling downward, and most imminently he may lose his job. So, an image overhaul is needed, and a respectable fake boyfriend would go a long way to help, enter Oliver, a barrister, who also needs to show the stability of a relationship, without all the mess of reality. What follows has all the feels, is fun and witty in that snarky, acerbic British way, but is also tender, thoughtful and full of wisdom. What are you waiting for? A beautifully lyrical, yet raw, novel about migrations in people, time, and the environment. Humans are very good at hurt, causing it and feeling it, and this novel explores some of the ways we relate badly to each other and the damage we cause. Paralleled throughout is the, possibly last, migration of a flock of arctic terns, and the immense strength they must have to do so, albeit an unconscious one, an innate drive to stay on their designated track, whereas the human struggle is always a choice, although learned habits may make it seem less so. A compelling read. ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty

Fun, farcical rom-com, written by one half of the Mitchell-Webb comic duo. What begins as an exploration of grief, soon time travels back to the nostalgia of the early nineties, and then brings us swiftly back to the present in a London black cab in Austin Powers style hilarity. A super fun, quick read, perfect for a summer’s lazy day. ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty

This book will have you laughing out loud! Mortimer introduces us to the many varied, and often eccentric, characters who make bees a part of their everyday lives, in the most readable, and delightful way. Not a how-to, but much more of a why, in regard to beekeeping, rich in history, science and anecdotes. For anyone curious about bees, this book is a must read. ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty

I devoured this in a couple of days, it was such a compassionate and compelling read. Harkness’ most recent breakdown, after many years of anxiety and depression, led him to nature, and most specifically the observation of birds. Medications and more traditional routes to recovery were just not working, and yet, the most simple of ways, to immerse oneself in nature seemed to be the way for Harkness to find a respite, and more importantly, a path to healing. This book delights in the beauty of nature, the importance of slowing oneself down and making those minute observations that give us connection with our world. I highly recommend this to all. ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty

“For even if we don't believe in miracles, they are there, and they are waiting for us to find them.”
Macdonald’s essays in this book are as much like miracles as the subjects she writes about. With writing so beautiful and observations so keen, this is a book to be savored, and I know I’ll be dipping in and out of it for years to come, a true treasure. I cannot wait to recommend this book to all those curious about the natural world. ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty
