In his presentation, Mr. Davis will focus on some of the enslaved people whose stories are illuminated in the book—from Billy Lee to Ona Judge to Isaac Granger. He will discuss the history of American slavery and its role in America’s founding, making the case that America was conceived in liberty but born in shackles.
