Linnea Hartsuyker & Carrie Callaghan Event

Join us on Friday, March 29th at 7:00 p.m. when we feature Linnea Hartsuyker, author of The Sea Queen, and Carrie Callaghan, author of A Light of Her Own, in conversation about their books.

The Sea Queen:
“Hartsuyker’s second volume in her trilogy (after The Half-Drowned King) continues the saga of Ragnvald Eysteinsson…but Svanhild proves that Norse women can be just as vicious and cunning as Norse men….this is an ambitious tale of Norwegian medieval warfare told in richly colorful and accurate historical detail. Hartsuyker’s novel reveals just how tenuous life is when disputes are settled with sword and battle-axe.”-Publishers Weekly

Linnea Hartsuyker grew up in the woods outside Ithaca, New York, and studied Engineering at Cornell University. After a decade of working at internet startups, and writing in the evenings and on weekends, she attended New York University and received an MFA in Creative Writing. She lives in New York City with her husband.

A Light of Her Own:
“A vivid, ambitious novel about art and female friendship. With evocative detail, Callaghan transports us to 17th-century Holland and the early lives of Judith Leyster—who strives to be the first woman admitted to the elite Haarlem Painters Guild—and her friend and fellow artist, Maria, who has great talent but cannot match Judith’s raw ambition. A Light of Her Own is engaging, heartfelt, and brimming with color and light.”—Frances de Pontes Peebles, author of The Seamstress and The Air You Breathe

Carrie Callaghan is a writer living in Maryland with her spouse, two young children, and two ridiculous cats. Her short fiction has appeared in Weave Magazine, The MacGuffin, Silk Road, Floodwall, and elsewhere. Carrie is also an editor and contributor with the Washington Independent Review of Books. She has a Master’s of Arts in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
