How to Write a Family Cookbook
Writing your family cookbook is more than simply recording the recipes. It’s a way to preserve family traditions and gives you a place to share stories, photos and techniques. There is no better time to begin than right now to gather the recipes and the stories, and layout your cookbook for printing – ready in time for holiday gifts to your family!
Ellen Ecker Ogden has been writing cookbooks for over a decade, and she is ready to teach you how to gather your recipes and put together the stories for your own book. Ideal as a project to do together as a family for a birthday or special reunion
Join her for a four-part cookbook writing class at the Northshire Bookstore beginning on Thursday, October 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th @4 PM – 5:30 PM.
In this class you will learn:
- Recipes: How to write a recipe & establish your cookbook style.
- Selection: Gather family recipes & the stories.
- Writing: Practice personal writing to develop your voice.
- Design: Basics of layout, photography & design to take your book to final production.
Class Cost $100. Limited to 15 participants. Sign up in advance.
About Ellen Ecker Ogden
In 2003, Ellen published her first cookbook From the Cook’s Garden based on the seed catalog she co-founded. It was followed by The Vermont Cheese Book, and The Complete Kitchen Garden in 2011, with recipes and garden designs for cooks who love to garden. The Vermont Country Store Cookbook was published in 2014, co-written with Andrea Diehl, inspired this writing class to help others weave together stories with family their recipes. Her newest book The New Heirloom Garden will be published in Spring 2020.
