Silas House reveals himself to be a master story teller while gracefully unfurling this tale of striking scenery and lively characters. The stark grey of coal country is masterfully interwoven with the warmth of a vibrant but troubled young woman's spirit. The dark fate of coal miners and landowners in the company-owned town is counterbalanced by House's uplifting portrayal of familial strength, particularly the bond of sisterhood. There are some truly gorgeous passages in this book which alone would make it worth the reading. ~ Reviewed by Jon Fine
