MJ was THE sports hero in the 90s. His face was everywhere. Six NBA titles, a stint in baseball, movies, Dream Teams, Gatorade, Nike...the list goes on and on. His Airness transcended pop culture in a way that no other athlete had before. But who was the man...truly? There's some unexpectedly dark depths in here, to be sure. ~ Reviewed by Chris Linendoll

This book by "The Great One" is a bit of an oddball. Firstly, no, there aren't 99 stories in here. It is also not a traditional biography or memoir. This is a history lesson of the first 99 years of the NHL, with personal anecdotes from #99. The writing may not win a Pulitzer, but having Gretzky himself teach you about the game makes up for any literary shortcomings. ~ Reviewed by Chris Linendoll

"I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth," the dying Lou Gehrig's unforgettable phrase spoken at a Yankee Stadium ceremony, catapulted a baseball player to heroism. Gary Cooper's modest and dignified portrayal of Gehrig in The Pride of the Yankees is revealed by Sandomir as a near-perfect match of a ballplayer and a star. ~ Reviewed by Mike Hare

John Scott was never supposed to be a superstar. He was a career journeyman, going from team to team as needed. He wasn't an elite goal scorer, but he was big, and he wasn't afraid to back down from a fight. As his new memoir shows, he is also a giant teddy bear of a man.

Somewhere along the way, NHL fans decided to show their appreciation of his career and personality (and maybe just a hint of irony) and made him the Fan Choice Winner for a spot in the 2016 NHL All Star Game. Unfortunately, Scott's road to the game wasn't nearly as smooth as it could have been.

The NHL decided that John Scott's votes were influenced by fans for the wrong reason, and did everything in their power to bar him from playing in the game. After much backlash, John Scott DID play, and was even named captain of his team. Not only that, he scored two goals and was named MVP. It all goes to show, sometimes good things DO happen to good people, even a guy like him. ~ Reviewed by Chris Linendoll
