Brilliant begins with the very first known human-made lamp in the Lascaux Caves and travels all the way to present day with the debate between LEDs and CFLs. The most fascinating part is seeing how advances in lighting and electricity have shaped the culture of man-kind from the start. ~ Reviewed by Krysta Piccoli

Carr magnificently puts forth the case that the use of The Internet has indeed changed our brain. Not since the book itself became available to all, has our brain experienced such a shift. Backed by scientific studies that are ongoing, he articulates what is gained (multi-tasking, access to massive amounts of information, group connectivity) and what is lost (deep reading, original thought, imagination and empathy). Finally he makes the point that the online world is here to stay and that we must all be mindful of the consequences. ~ Reviewed by Karen Frank

The argument rages on and proofs are presented...Science vs. Supernatural. This book is for you if you think the two need not be mutually exclusive. Written in an accessible style, full of good research and historical perspective, and educated mind will be comfortable about coming to its own conclusions...or not, since the "scientific evidence" may never be forthcoming. ~ Reviewed by Karen Frank

This is an excellent and thoroughly readable examination into various paraphilias: sexual fetishes that deviate from the the middle of the road. Bergner's prose melds to fit its subject and there are a few (and far between) passages where he even gets a little too personal. Throughout each of the books four chapters, he offers a keen insight and empathy to his subjects: a man with a debilitating foot fetish; a female sadist; a man who molested his stepdaughter; a fashion photographer attracted to amputees. Bergner never holds these people up as figures of emulation, nor does he denigrate their desires as "weird." He opens up a world that makes you look at your own desires, and recognize that we all have parts of us that may not seem "normal": and if nobody's "normal," then everyone is.

One needs to be intelligent, brave and a very good person with just the right balance between arrogance and humility to be a true atheist (or a good scientist). There is so much to be gained from reading this fascinating book which (among other points) explodes the Bible as history, and details the use of the existence of God, both in the past and present as a dangerous tool of megalomania.

Although I cling to my agnosticism like a security blanket, I cannot help but agree with the humanistic ideas and the plea for the eradication of ignorance Mr.Dawkins sets out, as a condition for the further survival and evolution of the human race. ~ Reviewed by Karen Frank
