Poetry has been a home for voices displaced by love since antiquity, so it is easy to repeat old thoughts and motifs, but thankfully Tempest stays clean from this for the most part. It starts at the end as we work our way backward, and even though this story structure has been utilized—albeit, sparsely—Tempest mines vivid and unique images that help to render this a solid tale of poetic truths, fresh phrases, and emotional depth. It is evident Tempest has improved her style, and I'll wait and muse over what her next collection might be with eager anticipation. ~ Reviewed by Alex Bell

Kay’s poems celebrate family, love, travel, as well as the oddness, beauty and darkness of the world. She is powerful and soft. Bold and quiet. She hits you over the head and whispers in your ear. She is hopeful even among some seemly less than hopeful situations. Grab a cup of tea, sit comfortably and enjoy! ~ Reviewed by Jeanette

A great introduction to Auden, one of the preeminent poets of the 20th century (top five for me). This edition is a great place to start and includes the wonderful poems that he eventually renounced and disowned including “September 1, 1939,” the complete sonnet sequence “In Time of War,” and all of the stanzas of “In Memory of W.B. Yeats.” A poet of genius and rare gifts. Here are all of his best poems, poems that stand with any in the language and will be read as long as people care about words pleasingly arranged in a masterful balance of form and content. ~ Reviewed by Dafydd Wood

This volume collects all of the poetry Auden wished to preserve. A mighty tome worth having next to his Selected. If uneven, still always well done and interesting. Here you can get “For the Time Being,” “The Age of Anxiety,” “No, Plato, No,” “Doggerel by a Senior Citizen,” which are not in the Selected. And (almost) everything else. ~ Reviewed by Dafydd Wood

The supreme edition of the supreme poet of the latter half of the 20th century (in my view). Larkin’s slim published works are gorgeously constructed poems that deftly wed British slang and a perfect ear for meter and rhyme. They are deeply pessimistic, almost nihilistic, but beautiful. The way he closes a poem is unparalleled—a sweeping negative vision that always turns back upon himself. But, even then, there are positive moments. An incomplete list of Larkin’s masterpieces – “Sad Steps,” “At Grass,” “Aubade,” “High Windows,” “Church Going,” “The Explosion,” “MCMXIV,” etc. One of my absolute favorite poets. ~ Reviewed by Dafydd Wood

A most unusual "autobiography" begun at age five by the red, winged Geryon. He records with words and his camera his abusive brother, elusive lover, and conducive travels with a fixation on volcanoes and an endpoint in Peru, where Geryon's mythological life may simultaneously hold, and erupt. ~ Reviewed by Mike Hare
