The Family Upstairs is a horror-mystery that keeps you on your toes until the very last page. Libby, a young woman who was adopted as a baby, discovers on her 25th birthday she will be inheriting a multi-million dollar mansion from her dead birth parents, whose bodies were found in the mansion along with a third mysterious man, and Libby as a baby, then known as Serenity Lamb. She begins to investigate the house’s history with the help of a local reporter to uncover the mystery behind her parents’ deaths and to find her missing siblings, but little does she know that others have been waiting for Libby’s return, both revealing their connection to the mansion and to Libby over the course of the novel. The tension builds to a near unbearable stage, and explodes just as the sinister past of the house is revealed. Shocking, suspenseful and well-written! ~ Reviewed by Kirstin Swartz

A badass heroine who is a bookstore owner by day and private investigator by night? I was immediately hooked. Save Me from Dangerous Men is the debut thriller from Lelchuk and the beginning of his Nikki Griffin series, following Nikki as she takes on a seemingly normal case that turns ugly, endangering her life and the lives of the people she cares about most. The opening hook was phenomenal and immediately showed me that Nikki was going to be on the same levels of action heroes from other mystery series from the likes of Lee Child and James Patterson; maybe even better. Her character is so layered and well written, I just want to be her. Anyone who are fans of Jesscia Jones or any mystery-action book series will fall hard for this novel. ~ Reviewed by Kirstin Swartz

Lo Blacklock is an up-and-coming travel journalist who has been assigned the story of a lifetime; a week on the luxury cruise-ship The Aurora with a handful of other guests to travel across the North Sea. But what was meant to be a week in paradise and the story that would skyrocket Lo’s career ends up becoming a dark voyage filled with paranoia and murderous plots.
This novel has the perfect backdrop for a suspenseful murder mystery; a fancy boat surrounded by fancy people, with a paranoid narrator. I’ll admit, Lo’s character was hard to connect with at first, but by the time I reached the middle of the story I was all in and was rooting for Lo to survive the hell she was put through, just for trying to do the right thing. I was half-right guessing who was behind the murder but the plot twist still shocked me.
Overall, there were some issues I had with pacing and some of the side characters not being fleshed out, but this was a great read. I can’t wait to explore more of Ruth Ware’s stories! ~ Reviewed by Kirsten Swartz
