This thriller about the theft of a Stradivarius from a talented Black violinist uses that incident which animates the novel to explore the racism endemic to Classical music. Slocumb, a practicing musician, uses incidents from his own life mixed with the story of a family heirloom violin that magically reveals itself to be the Italian instrument. An exciting, timely novel. ~ Reviewed by Dafydd Wood

The Witch in the Well is the creepy yet mesmerizing novel of your dreams. Its haunting atmosphere will pull you in from page one while its breathtaking imagery will remind you of stories like the Ring and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Told through written accounts, you are met with multiple unreliable narrators, forcing you to question their every word. It is absolutely riveting and unputdownable. ~ Reviewed by Cassidy Washburn

My first experience with Deon Meyer will NOT be my last. His book, deftly translated from his native Afrikaans, is a tense and gripping crime novel alternating multiple crimes that eventually all come together in a stunning conclusion. The memorable characters--- the detectives, criminals and those in between are flawed and human and approachable. The author’s depiction of the Cape Town region and its inhabitants is clearly born of first-hand knowledge and a deep affection. Highly recommended for all lovers of police procedurals and crime novels. ~ Reviewed by Tambra Johnson Reap

Jennifer McMahon is becoming one of my favorite mystery writers! The way she is able to build the suspense slowly as more and more questions come into play, is second to none. This book is no different and trust me, you will feel so much satisfaction when all the answers are finally revealed. Fast-paced and unputdownable! ~ Reviewed by Cassidy Washburn

If a book could embody a poker face, it would be this one. Two Nights in Lisbon was an incredible international thriller that kept you in disbelief, head-swimming, and stressfully ripping through chapter after chapter to uncover the truth (but which truth?). Ariel Pryce wakes up alone in Lisbon, her new husband gone missing. What comes from this is not the traditional black-ops thrill Pavone is known for, but instead a deeply personal story about Ariel, the stakes she’s in now, and the ones she ran from in the past. I loved how much this book surprised me, and Ariel is definitely one of my top mystery protagonists of all time now. Read it, and enjoy the ride. ~ Reviewed by Kirstin Swartz

This book gave me SUCH creepy feelings at some points. It gave total "you can't trust anyone in a small town" vibes. I felt like I had to keep looking back at the characters every 5 mins trying to figure out who could be trusted. Turns out everyone has their own little dark secret in this book, even Abigail Lovett. It is just a small town full of dark secrets that no one is ready to have uncovered. When I tell you my jaw hit the floor at the end, I am NOT kidding!! This book is insane!! ~ Reviewed by Kylie Thalheimer
