Tara Brach tackles the many current stresses that society can face on the daily--news, politics, demands, countless other anxieties--in her heartfelt book Radical Compassions. Brach uses her experiences as a teacher to create a simple four-step practice to unwind the many difficult emotions and stresses that come with everyday issues in our lives. Her meditation practice, RAIN (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture) is explained thoroughly with examples and personal experiences shared by Brach and her students who have dealt with past traumas, losses, and insecurities. This is a great, “New Year, New Me,” book for anyone who wishes to work through any overwhelming emotions they’ve been feeling using the RAIN practice. I highly recommend Radical Compassion, and this is a great book to listen to on audio as well! ~ Reviewed by Kirstin Swartz

Idleness, according to Headlee, has a bad rap that must be corrected. She traces our workaholic culture to the dawn of the Industrial Age two centuries ago, which disrupted humanity's natural impulse for downtime. Her advice to strive less and relax more may take some time to adopt, but may be time very well spent.
