Rachel Bloom's I Want to Be Where the Normal People Are is as hilarious, cringy, and relatable as the show that made her a household name (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and has a little bit of everything; childhood trauma, hilarious anecdotes, musical numbers, Harry Potter fanfic, spanx... This book is a roller coaster ride (literally, she's designed a theme park within the book), and is a breezy read for outcasts and/or theater people. ~ Reviewed by Virginia Edinger

Reminiscent of Alison Bechdel's Fun Home, but less serious, Markoe takes us through their childhood, teen years and today. They talk about their influences along with the trials of growing up. We have “flash nows” that have Today Markoe talking to Younger Markoe. We have the history of the country, television and one family. I do not think Markoe is 100% sane; but that is what makes them so wonderful. For adults, but older teens would enjoy it as well. However, due to drug and sexual situations, it's not for everyone. ~ Reviewed by Jeanette

It's hard to write as well as you speak - I've read memoirs I realized I'd rather hear - but damn does Esposito do it. Her stories start in one direction, and suddenly you turn a corner to a new dimension you hadn't expected. With the craft of an expert jokester, Esposito tells her life story in a stark yet hilarious way - the 80-block-walk defeats, the total-familial-acceptance highs. Her writing influenced and changed the way I write, and that is the highest compliment one can give. ~ Reviewed by Katelynne Shimkus

Perhaps the funniest and most accurate book about relationships that has ever been published. Like when Baudelaire first read Edgar Allan Poe, I was amazed to see herein sentences and thoughts that I had myself already thought—but only more succinct and hilarious. The book speaks for itself: “Honesty is not necessarily the best policy,” “If someone is very picky about how the laundry should be done, as opposed to shoving it all in the washing machine…that someone should do the laundry,” “Whoever cares the most that there are crumbs in the toaster gets the de-crumbing job,” or “Sexual favors in exchange for cleaning up the cat vomit is a good and fair trade.” ~ Reviewed by Dafydd Wood

By allowing us to view our own mundanity through the lens of the "other", Strange Planet shows us just how absurd our day-to-day life is. Certainly a series of narratives worth keeping on one's n a r r a t i v e r e c e p t a c l e. ~ Reviewed by Andrew Bugenis

Hill is a hoot as he traces his marginal Canadian heritage in a series of North of the Border jaunts. There's loads of Canadian characters, cold Canadian weather, Canadian souvenirs, Canadian heavy metal, and that tasty Canadian delicacy: poutine. ~ Reviewed by Mike Hare
