In this collection of essays, Witt explores various sexual subcultures, such as polyamory and the free love spirit of Burning Man, that celebrate promiscuity and subvert the notion that the exploration of one's sexuality should have the end goal of finding someone with whom to start a family. ~ Reviewed by Marisa Langlois

A fascinating study about the rise of marketplace feminism, and its visibility across all types of media. We Were Feminists Once, written by Andi Zeisler of Bitch Media is an eye opening book that gives readers a serious yet at times funny look at how feminism has been changed and adapted into a brand to be bought, sold and consumed. Zeisler discusses how "branding" feminism has taken conversations of substance about "how do we fix and change this" and turned them into listicles like "top 10 celebrity feminists" and made feminism a cool mainstream identity (I'm looking at you "this is what a feminist looks like" shirts). While this renewed interest in feminism can be seen as a good thing, this book discusses the challenges feminism now faces in taking this interest and looking for the truth behind the warped mainstream marketplace feminism. Examples that Zeisler gives of this are how recently any "choice" a woman makes can apparently be seen as a feminist choice ( "it's my choice to" shave/not shave your legs, wear/not wear makeup ect.) and how women can be "empowered" by just about everything they do these days (17 empowering songs by female artists). This book is written in an engaging, smart, and snarky way that is both easily approachable and thought provoking. If you read about feminism on buzzfeed, are interested in celebrity feminists, or may not be sure about what feminism really means, I invite you to read this book and dive a little deeper into an important and fascinating subject. ~ Reviewed by Amy Williams

Valenti puts into words what, unfortunately, so many women have experienced in their lifetimes by giving a stark account of her experience growing up in New York City. I closed the book with a sigh close to relief that, at last, there is a tangible account of the toll sexual harassment takes on a person, immediately passed the book to my sister, and encourage you to do the same. ~ Reviewed by Jess Hanlon
