Her name was Jacqueline Gauthier. One of her many secrets was that her real name was Judith Geller, a Jewish teen who pretended to be a Christian social worker. She was part of the French Resistance, she would lose dozens of her family to the war, and later would let her children play with the little yellow toy duck that was used to save countless lives. While a tense story, it is presented with compassion. Physical darker imagery set the tone, but also the use of light and color shows the hope that is there, too. ~ Reviewed by Jeanette

Dr. Virginia Apgar invented a test that would help doctors evaluate newborns and their health, (among her other achievements). Yet, we are not just seeing a story on a medical procedure, but one that is about a woman who never slowed down, never stopped, even though she was told “women cannot do that.” We see how the world of medicine was being shaped, and how she was in the middle of it all. The clever and cute art allows a serious story about a woman, doctor, teacher (and more) to be more lighthearted. ~ Reviewed by Jeanette

If you've got a knack for folklore and/or chilling campfire stories, this book is for you. It's an anthology of short stories about instances or passages passed down through generations of Native Americans. This author travels the U.S. picking up Native stories as he goes in hopes to share them with the world and I think these stories are crucial to learning about the beliefs and past lives of the American Indians' past, present and future. The experiences some of these people went through are definitely one of a kind and as a lover of folklore and cryptids myself, it makes me want to learn more about their culture and beliefs. ~ Reviewed by Ashley Newberg
