A beautifully lyrical, yet raw, novel about migrations in people, time, and the environment. Humans are very good at hurt, causing it and feeling it, and this novel explores some of the ways we relate badly to each other and the damage we cause. Paralleled throughout is the, possibly last, migration of a flock of arctic terns, and the immense strength they must have to do so, albeit an unconscious one, an innate drive to stay on their designated track, whereas the human struggle is always a choice, although learned habits may make it seem less so. A compelling read. ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty

The Forgotten Kingdom is the second volume in the The Lost Queen Trilogy and it picks up right where The Lost Queen ended. Get a cup of tea and a scone and a comfy chair and be prepared to get lost in the dark, peaty Scottish mists of the 6th century British Isles and ancient poetry. Based on years of research and scholarly material that has been largely ignored or forgotten, this is for anyone who loves The Mists of Avalon. ~ Reviewed by Maeve Noonan

The definitive monograph on the most personable of modernist painters, Paul Klee: Life and Work, is back in print. This book presents both a biography and the most generous selection of Klee’s tender, magical paintings and drawings. In clear chronological groupings from his association with Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc’s Der Blaue Reiter group, to his core faculty position at the Bauhaus, to his branding as a “degenerate artist” by the Nazis, the full scope of Klee's art and life are methodically presented. I’ve always been enchanted by magical figurative paintings like Fish Magic and The Twittering Machine, but with this book I developed a new appreciation for his distinctly personal brand of abstraction. ~ Reviewed by Dafydd Wood

Fun, farcical rom-com, written by one half of the Mitchell-Webb comic duo. What begins as an exploration of grief, soon time travels back to the nostalgia of the early nineties, and then brings us swiftly back to the present in a London black cab in Austin Powers style hilarity. A super fun, quick read, perfect for a summer’s lazy day. ~ Reviewed by Becky Doherty

A series debut that fans of Kate Atkinson or Tana French would like and set in Dublin and New York. When new evidence appears in Dublin Detective Maggie D’arcy findsand the re-opening of the investigation into the disappearance of her cousin 23 years which occurred earlier. This is an interesting story meshing both an active and a cold case, in the windswept and brooding terrain around Dublin. The writer conveys the scenes perfectly and grabs you from the very beginning, all the way to the surprise ending. A must read! ~ Reviewed by Tambra Johnson Reap

This book of historical WWII fiction looks at the war from the German point of view, showing a harrowing tale of normal citizens being caught up in a nightmare war they didn’t want. Taking place at the end of the War, it follows the lives of Etta and Josef, who are at home whilst their elder son Max is fighting at the front and their 15 year-old Georg has been conscripted into the Hitler Youth a hundred miles away. Max returns a broken man, and Josef himself is at emotional odds with his feelings about patriotism. Etta must find a way to bring back together her splintered family and hold them in the face of an uncertain future. Heartbreaking. ~ Reviewed by Tambra Johnson Reap
