This book just excels at everything it tries to do. The story it tells is fascinating one enough that I'd recommend this to full-on adults with no children. The art is lovely and amazingly expressive. It's inspiring, and not just for young girls, but for anybody from an impoverished background or who fancies themselves an autodidact. To top it all off, it's educational as heck, acting as a very good introduction to the history of paleontology. Overall, A gorgeous, informative, and heartening picture book for all ages! ~ Reviewed by David Gray-Smith

The Wraith Arc interquels from the end of the show up through the events at the start of Rebellion. I'd recommend reading it before watching Rebellion, since it doesn't spoil anything while very effectively foreshadowing the events of the film. But if you're like me and didn't know a/b the Wraith Arc until you'd finished the series, I'd still go so far as to call this mandatory reading for fans of the original Madoka Magica. By the end of the 2nd volume, it's already in the running for "most existentially horrific moments" of the whole franchise. I will caution: the action beats might be a little hard to follow if you're unfamiliar w/ the main-series, but if you have some gauge on how the fighting's supposed to look, Hanokage does a killer job of making static images look & feel just like fights from the anime. ~ Reviewed by David Gray-Smith

Combining body horror with necessary and well overdue social commentary, Mary explores mid-life womanhood centering around a woman who is constantly dismissed because of her age and, therefore, her invisibility. Think Carrie, if Carrie were middle aged without supernatural abilities. Nonstop twists and turns combined with Cassidy’s pitch-black humor and compelling protagonist made for an unforgettable reading experience unlike any other. ~ Reviewed by Madison Gallup

It's not so much about figuring out who the bad guy is--although good luck with that--but very much about the characters in this immersive Swedish crime novel. Set in the late 1980's and in the present, the story focuses on the small town cop obsessed with the attacks that unsettle his community, his partners, his son, the victims' families, and ultimately the writer who tries to unravel it all years later. The award-winning Carlsson has crafted a thought-provoking thriller that explores questions about the nature of truth and the meaning of it all. Highly recommended. ~ Reviewed by Stan Hynds

One of my favorite poets wrapped up into one of my favorite books of poetry. This is a great journey into Rich's distinct voice, with a palpable sense of her life and mind unfolding over the course of 20 years. Highly recommend. ~ Reviewed by Nora Heffernan-Smith
