There's a shifting quality to Egan's latest novel. It's a novel that also works as a collection of interlocked short stories, like Little Bee. It involves workers in the music business, but it's not really a "rock book." It's hip, but you don't need to know who LCD Soundsystem is to get down. We meet a young kleptomaniac assistant working for an impotent A&R man who knows a freaky musician drop-out who ... All are prone to life's little embarrassments. All are looking for a second chance. Egan's ability to create characters who are winning even while they're losing is what kept me hooked. Her willingness to experiment with the novel's form--including jumps between past and future and a plausible version of what the novel might be like in 2030--turns out to be the real gated snare on her modern groove. — Charles Bottomley

Jennifer Eagan is rightfully celebrated for this hilarious, complex novel. Sasha is a young, eccentric woman working for an aging rock star named Benny.Their stories weave through one another and characters overlap throughout this touching, witty, and truly remarkable story. — Emily De Fiore

This novel tells the story of washed up music biz alums, Bennie and Sasha through everyone else in their lives. You hear from the uncle, the wife, the guy she went out on a date with that one time, and many more- all characters in them selves. A very innovative and well thought out method that weaves an interesting narrative about human connection. The Pulitzer Prize winning novel is great for book and music nerds alike. — Molly Halpin

“In A Visit from the Goon Squad, Egan presents a number of the kinds of idiosyncrasies we tend to avoid, only in this collection of expertly layered stories, the flawed characters enrapture and entwine themselves in the reader's imagination. Egan's novel is in a fresh form, the function of which merely hints at our own human imperfections and allows readers to forgive not just the characters in this collection, but themselves as well.”
