About the Author
Aged just 32, Simon Dawson took a risk, sold his London flat and moved with his wife, Great Dane and horse to a cottage on Exmoor. Scraping every penny together they bought 20 acres of scruffy but beautiful Exmoor, and built from scratch a smallholding where they live, self-sufficient and happy. In 2008 they won UKTV Food, Gary Rhodes Local Food Heroes for the South West.
“This book creates the same feeling that we all enjoy when our first course arrives at the table. Page after page, as course after course, new flavours are experienced, excitement grows and a true enthusiasm and dedication develops. The book captures Simon’s passion for food, and the land it comes from, so by the last page I feel hungrier than ever!” - Gary Rhodes OBE
“Self sufficiency is all about having a go … Simon has actually been there and done that’ so this book is essential reading if you are planning your idyllic future or actually living it now.” - Dick Strawbridge
“I just love the philosophy … this wonderful book is all about great, local food and its relationship with the land.” - Michael Caines MBE, 2-star Michelin chef
