This book caught my eye from the moment I saw the cover, and once I started reading I was quickly drawn into the world. I don't believe I've ever read anything quite like this book. Set in a post apocalyptic London, people can no longer keep hold of their own memories unless they have an object to physically remind them of something important, the written word has been outlawed and forgotten, and the mysterious chimes ring out everyday in the morning, afternoon and night. It is in this world that Simon, who has recently lost both of his parents, travels to London to find...something. Something that he quickly forgets about and instead becomes a member of five rover pact. But forgetting is an easy thing to do in a world where if you don't remember the song to get yourself home, you can become memory-lost, doomed to wander and never remember who you are or what you were doing. It is remembering that is difficult if not impossible, and Simon is soon to learn that he has a gift for remembering the past, and not just his own.

About the Author
Anna Smaill is a classically trained violinist and published poet. Born in Auckland in 1979, she holds an MA in Creative Writing from the International Institute of Modern Letters (Wellington), an MA in English Literature from the University of Auckland and a PhD in contemporary American poetry from University College London. She is the author of one book of poetry, The Violinist in Spring, and her poems have been published and anthologized in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She has lived and worked in both Tokyo and London, and now lives in New Zealand with her husband, novelist Carl Shuker, and their daughter.
