I'm in love with the protagonist, Maggie, a naive, ambitious, & funny young girl who is entering middle school with ambitions to become the next president of the United States. At school, when she finds herself alone at the lunch table, she isn't at all anxious; instead, she takes out her class syllabus and marks due dates on her calendar with each class marked in a corresponding color. At home, Maggie doesn't always get along with her "girly" older sister, but her family is tight-knit and supportive. Maggie's father, has a wheelchair, sharp wit, and a knowledge of all things "cool," including vinyl records. As Maggie learns that her father's disability is more serious than she imagined, she feels the first pangs of understanding that her parents are fallible mortal beings. Instead of fearing the worst, Maggie is empowered with a fiercer, empathetic love. — Bonnie Winchester

Being 11 means the beginning of everything! Maggie is one step closer to voting, getting a tattoo and becoming the president. It also means she needs to find out why her dad’s legs are falling asleep. Told with refreshing honesty, this is a quirky, heartbreaking story of a family coping with MS. — Whitney Kaaz

As befits a future President of the United States of America, Maggie Mayfield has decided to write a memoir of the past year of her life. And what a banner year it's been! During this period she's Student of the Month on a regular basis, an official shareholder of Coca-Cola stock, and defending Science Fair champion. Most importantly, though, this is the year Maggie has to pull up her bootstraps (the family motto) and finally learn why her cool-dude dad is in a wheelchair, no matter how scary that is. Author Megan Jean Sovern, herself the daughter of a dad with multiple sclerosis, writes with the funny grace and assured prose of a new literary star.

A portion of the proceeds of the sale of this book will be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
