Staff Reviews

If you've listened to a single true crime podcast or watched an episode of Forensic Files, you think you have an idea how this one is going to end up - you're probably wrong.
It's a weird one (you can tell from the first chapter from the bible-reading cat's perspective) but that's not a bad thing and it's absolutely worth it. Dark and nerve-y and full of personality, bared teeth, and a little hope. Kind of.
Content Warning: body horror, psychological turmoil, child endangerment

Once you think you’ve uncovered the plot—nope!—another layer of the story reveals itself. The way this story unfolds by unmasking each character’s history—including a God-fearing cat—creates a rich narrative that ultimately leads up to a satisfying ending. Although the majority of the story is dark and twisted—as it should be for horror—it has a really amazing ending that I found to be full of hope and healing. — Connor Johnston

“I loved this highly original literary horror novel. Ward does an excellent job in portraying the main characters while slowly peeling back the different layers to the story. Highly recommended.”
