With beautiful, bold collages the author and the illustrator tell us the story of Martin Luther King, primarily in his own words. The narrative is punctuated by quotes from Martin so you get the sense of his passion and the motivation behind his non-violent protests. This story is one we all know, but should continue to present to our children in all its various forms and levels. The illustrations in this particular incarnation are very important, because they represent a coming together of various materials and mediums, and they do so beautifully, giving each other a new meaning. Letting children see the words of the man himself rather than simply telling the story will bring the subject matter that much closer to them. By focusing on his accomplishments rather than his untimely and violent death, there is a sense of hope that is constant throughout the book. This book is stunning and thought provoking. — Jessica Wood
