This is a great read for people interested in science, particularly what has happened in the century since Einstein's theory of relativity was presented. It details the interesting, sometime odd, passionate and brilliant people who have worked to measure gravitational waves and, therefore, prove that black holes exist as theorized. Sounds much more dry that it is - Levin does a good job bringing the quest to life and explaining just enough science to make it interesting but not overwhelming to a layperson. The decades of hard work and experimentation that have gone into this effort are amazing and the scientists are characters. Good read!

About the Author
JANNA LEVIN is a professor of physics and astronomy at Barnard College of Columbia University. She is also director of sciences at Pioneer Works, a center for arts and sciences in Brooklyn, and has contributed to an understanding of black holes, the cosmology of extra dimensions, and gravitational waves in the shape of spacetime. Her previous books include How the Universe Got Its Spots and a novel, A Madman Dreams of Turing Machines, which won the PEN/Bingham Prize. She was recently named a Guggenheim fellow.
