Growing up in the bookstore was a treat. Books have literally been in my blood since I was young. Now I mostly read books about the state of the world or the various possible futures we might face. I hope books, learning, communication, dialog, and the chance to ponder possibilities beyond our everyday lives will contribute to a world which thrives culturally, economically and environmentally.
I have been working at the Northshire Bookstore since 2000. I am the adult book buyer. Fiction, sports and nature are the categories I read most of the time. I was born and raised in South Carolina.
I try really hard to love every book I read. The easy measure of a book that succeeds for me is if I don't leave it on my bedside stand for a few paragraph's nightly reading before nodding off, but carry it with me to read while brushing my teeth, eating lunch, etc. until it's done. I'm not drawn to Sci Fi, murder mysteries, romance novels or New Age - otherwise, my criteria is in the "je ne sais quoi" realm. Good character studies, historical settings, no action needed. I hope you'll read the books I recommended - they're here because I loved them!
From Colosseum by Sarah Arvio "and all the beauty and the blasphemy. Petals, petals, scattering from the stands where only vestals were allowed to sit, having tended the flame for all of us. Here, I knew, was the empire of my soul showing on my face as I turned to you."
Walking in the woods with my pup, kayaking, reading good books and listening to music that stirs my soul are my passions in life. Actually my idea of a good day kayaking is parking myself in a sunny spot on a pond, hanging my legs over the side of the kayak and opening a book! I love to read fiction, biography and memoirs with a smattering of history and true adventure thrown in the mix. I love all kinds of music as long as it lights a fire in my soul and makes me want to sing!
