If you're ever feeling a bit melancholic at the seeming lack of truly classic Hanukkah stories, here's the one! A great way to acquaint your children with Hershel of Ostropol and get them interested in Jewish/Ukrainian folklore. And the art...I'd almost buy it for the poster alone. Hyman's illustrations are some of the most wonderfully expressive you'll ever see; all the different goblins are so characterful, it's almost a crime the story can only afford a page or two for each of them. ~ Reviewed by David Gray-Smith
