City on Fire is an excellent read that is compelling yet, very easy. Hallberg's choice of words are poignant and each has its own purpose. He paints an incredibly vivid world and makes extremely relatable, yet diverse characters. While every page is a new discovery of these complex and rich characters, Hallberg manages to also make a statement on humanity as a whole. It is both an enthralling and enriching piece of literature. ~ Reviewed by Misha D'Andrea
Fast-paced and at times extremely gritty (who knew piano wire was the best way to behead someone?) The Vanishing Games was an exciting read from start to finish. Nothing was overly glamorous which was really refreshing and enjoyable in the mystery genre. ~ Reviewed by Misha D'Andrea
Beautiful and heartbreaking, I could not put this book down. The word family means something a little different to each of us, whether it be love, pain, joy, loss, togetherness, a heartaching loneliness, or I'm sure many combinations thereof. The story begs the question: what would you do if everyone you loved died? This book moved me in a way that I haven't felt for a long time and while it may not have the happiest of story lines, I highly recommend it! ~ Reviewed by Misha D'Andrea
If the TV shows Criminal Minds and Law and Order: SVU had a lovechild in book form it would be Pretty Girls. It seemed like there was a new twist every chapter and from start to finish keeps the reader thoroughly engaged. My only warning: not for the faint of heart; there are some things you cannot unread. ~ Reviewed by Misha D'Andrea
An absolutely fantastic book, I was hooked from beginning to end (which resulted in me reading it in one sitting). This is not your traditional "dragon takes damsel" story, but instead Uprooted is a captivating tale coated in myth and fairy tale lore while creating something unique. The characters are colorful and layered and the writing flows so well you forget that you are not there in Navik's world. A must, must read!! ~ Reviewed by Misha D'Andrea
