Originally written in 1983, this book was twenty or thirty years ahead of its time, with a great female protagonist who drives the story and a healthy dose of Chinese mysticism. That makes it maybe ten years behind where we are now, where some elements are handled in a way that you don't quite wince at, but you certainly notice. Still, it's aged better than many of its contemporaries, and is a quicker read that you can often find today. I particularly enjoyed the elegant and eloquent manner of speech between the two main characters, helping to elevate it to a loftier level of enjoyment. ~ Reviewed by Andrew Bugenis

Time travel for the world-builder.
Romance for the mushy-averse.
Spies and spaceships, letters left across battlefields, double-helixes and the flap of a butterfly’s wings.
A masterpiece. ~ Reviewed by Andrew Bugenis

Ava just had a messy break-up with her ex, Jules, who is unfortunately also her coworker. She tries to avoid them, but that's hard to do when the manager at this knockoff IKEA sends the two of them to find a customer. Who is lost. In another dimension.
On the slim side for a novella, Finna nevertheless delights with its adventure and raw emotion. It tells just what it needs to, and excites me for the prospect for what will happen after the last word graces the page. ~ Reviewed by Andrew Bugenis

The cover promises "Kidnappers, Alien Emperors, Psychic Cats," and Chilling Effect delivers all in the first two chapters. It also delivers a spaceship crew of half a dozen great characters, a bilingual protagonist who taught me some wonderful invectivas españolas along the way, and some very bold plot decisions that paid off in a big way. I don't know if it's the video game references or the psychic cats playing tricks on me, but this is the most fun I've had on a spaceship in a long time. ~ Reviewed by Andrew Bugenis
