The most interactive "How to Procrastinate Reading While. . . SURPRISE! . . . Reading" book I've come across yet. Complete with a blank page because it does feel good to turn the page without having to do any of that pesky reading stuff, doesn't it? At the end the message to go out and play rings loud and clear. Excellent fun for the reluctant reader. ~ Reviewed by Hanna Yost

Paul Adams is the perfect gutless antihero to root for as he navigates his hometown twenty-five years after a horrific murder takes place, a murder he was at the center of. As Paul revisits old haunts, he begins to wonder whether they are haunting him, and as he visits memories of his teendom more bitter than sweet, he wonders just how closed a case can be when the murderer was never seen again. Set in a town on the edge of a looming darkness, North's The Shadows could not be more aptly named, as it nudges us toward a nostalgia for hometown highschools before following the leader meant mob mentality, and reminds us that the truth is often as murky as dreams, and just as hard to hold onto. A macabre read I devoured in one day. ~ Reviewed by Hanna Yost

Elisabeth has been told all her life that sorcerers are evil and no good can come of magic. In a world in which grimoires come to life and librarians wield swords, in which demons make tea and misinformation threatens to topple cities, the time has come that she must decide for herself. Rogerson has flawlessly created a reading experience as magical as the world she has crafted. Though her gift for world-building is undeniable, her real talent lies in illuminating the subtleties of humanity. What would we do for love? What would we do to not be alone? The answer becomes resoundingly clear: anything. ~ Reviewed by Hanna Yost

Irréelle is a perfectly imperfect girl magicked into being by the villainous imagination of Miss Vesper and the help of some bone dust. All Irréelle wants is to be made real. But at what cost? Kassner's debut is a haunting tale of magic and graveyards, sure to delight fans of all things spooky. Though the story is rich with darkness its theme of friendship woven throughout casts a bright light, creating a masterful work full of heart. ~ Reviewed by Hanna Yost
