A groundbreaking collection of art moving from the halls of rock clubs to the walls of galleries.
A greatest-hits collection of the last decade of Jay Ryan's compelling posters, 100 Posters, 134 Squirrels showcases one of underground poster art's most prolific and talented practitioners. Framed by essays from luminaries in the music, design, and poster worlds—including Steve Albini, Art Chantry, Greg Kot, and Debra Parr—as well as an interview with Ryan himself, this book offers a unique look into Ryan's unusual approach to poster art.
Jay Ryan has been making screenprinted concert posters in Chicago since 1995. Known for his hand-drawn type, humorous animal subjects, and muted color selections, he has worked for thousands of rock bands, as well as clients like Patagonia Clothing, Converse Shoes, Burton Snowboards, and the BBC. His first book, 100 Poster, 134 Squirrels, was published in 2005 by Akashic Books.
