There is something about this book which is metaphysical yet grounded in reality. Out of the immense mists of 19th & 20th century Canada comes this wonderful story of family, relationships, connection to the land and a multitude of other human issues. I was truly mesmerized by the intricate plot linking past and present in a fresh way and taunted with shadows of understanding just outside my field of vision. Check out Jane Urquhart's previous novel The Underpainter.
