Northshire Bookstore Review(s)

Reviewed By... Jeanette

Tupelo finding herself on the side of the road with only her sock toy, Mr. Bones, sets off to find a place where she belongs. Along the way, Tupelo meets some interesting dogs (and people). The book starts with a time line (hidden in a flap format) of famous dog events as well as throughout the story hints about the actual star, Sirius. Other surprises are "hidden" in flap format as well. Adults will enjoy some of the more subtle humor while kids of all ages will be rooting for Tupelo!

Publisher Comments

Award-winning author/illustrator Melissa Sweet introduces Tupelo, an abandoned dog, who must find a new home for herself and her sock toy, Mr. Bones. With creative language and brilliant illustrations, Melissa shows how home is sometimes found in the most unexpected places.

"Sweet's beautifully detailed artwork, in watercolor and mixed-media, is packed with feeling and story." Booklist Starred, Jan 1 2008 Booklist, ALA, Starred Review

"[A] winsome tale laced with doggy humor...Fans of the popular stray-animal genre will bid her godspeed." Kirkus 3/15/08 Kirkus Reviews

"...Sweet is a gifted storyteller, working magic in this story." Buffalo News

Melissa Sweet is the illustrator of many fine children's books. Reviewers have described her unique mixed-media illustrations as "exuberant," "outstanding," and "a creative delight." Melissa lives on the beautiful coast of Maine. In addition to writing and painting, she enjoys gardening, hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. And even though Melissa is 357 dog years old, she still loves walking her two dogs, Rufus and Nelle. For more information about the author and her work, visit www.melissasweet.net.
