JOSEPH PROVEY is the former chief editor of Family Handyman, Mechanix Illustrated/Home Mechanix, and Practical Homeowner magazines. He has authored several home improvement books, including the Creative Homeowner titles Better Lawns and Design Ideas for Flooring, as well as many articles for national home and garden magazines. Provey began his career as a carpenter and now lives in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

OWEN LOCKWOOD is the senior editor at Home & Garden Editorial Services. He has worked on several home-improvement books, including the Creative
Homeowner titles Design Ideas for Flooring, 1001 Ideas for Decks, and
1001 Ideas for Kitchen Organization. Lockwood, who has been an editor
and writer at multiple national magazines, lives in Fairfield,
