Infectiously likable film adaptation of Jerry Herman's big Broadway hit with Lucille Ball in the role that made Angela Lansbury the toast of the Great White Way. What Lucy lacks in vocal finesse, she more than compensates for in sheer star power. She is given some first-class support from Robert Preston, Beatrice Arthur, repeating her Tony award-winning role as Mame's bosom buddy, and Jane Connell as Agnes Gooch. Splashy, colorful and completely shameless as it tugs at your heartstrings. Lucy's final theatrical film was not an unqualified success, but it makes for a very enjoyable entertainment.
