This is, simply, my favorite animated film of all-time. It is the only animated feature that Disney released in the 70mm Super Technarama format (Lady and the Tramp was released in Cinemascope which is not so elongated). Director Clyde Geronimi and his style consultant, Eyvind Earle, used Renaissance art as the inspiration for their gorgeous backgrounds. Along with the film's breathtaking visuals, Sleeping Beauty boasts one of the most memorable villains in all of the Disney canon. Maleficent (Eleanor Audley, who also voiced Lady Tremane in Cinderella) has a good claim on being "the mistress of all evil." This 50th Anniversary Edition contains many extras and it is the first time that the film has been available in the complete, original Technarama frame.
