Deadwood The Compl First Season (box)

No matter what your ultimate opinion might be of this original HBO series, you will have to admit that you have never seen anything quite like it. It is relentlessly foul-mouthed, sexually explicit, brimming over with blood and assorted gore and totally mesmerizing. Much of its distinction stems from the brilliant character performances and dialog that is a surprisingly palatable hybrid of William Shakespeare and Zane Grey. Ian McShane and Powers Boothe play the owners of two rival saloon/brothels in Deadwood, a mining camp with enough potential for limitless riches to eventually attract (in Season 2) the ruthless George Hearst (Gerald McRaney). Robin Wiegert gives a luminous performance as Calamity Jane. In a league with the best ever offered on television.
