Vincente Minnelli's first film is my all-time favorite movie musical! Utilizing many members of the original Broadway production, Minnelli found the exact temper and tone for this simple, but timeless story of good vs. evil. The great Ethel Waters made one of her infrequent screen appearances. Cabin in the Sky was Lena Horne's second film and it was one that she always spoke very highly of -- for good reason. Miss Waters sings Happiness is Just a Thing Called Joe and Taking a Chance on Love and that's about as close to heaven as any of us earthbound souls will ever get.
