Drag Me To Hell

After slogging through the Spider-Man trilogy, director Sam Raimi is back with a quirky, and surprisingly witty, horror/thriller that is easily the most flat-out entertaining movie of the year. A loan officer at a bank incurs the wrath of an old woman when she denies the extension on her mortgage. Working more with elements like shadows and wind than with explicit gore, Raimi evokes an atmosphere of chilling menace and dread. It also boasts one of the most clever twist endings since Michael Caine and Laurence Olivier sparred with each other in Sleuth.
