Brooklyn's Finest

A complex action movie with psychological undercurrents and strong characterizations. Richard Gere plays a burnt out cop who is counting the minutes until his 20-year stint on the force is over. Ethan Hawke is determined to move his expanding family to a new home in a better neighborhood, but he is finding it difficult to do on a policeman's salary. Director Fugua finds the same modulation -- somewhere between grit and empathy -- that made Training Day such an exceptional entry in the genre.
