The Round House powerfully dramatizes the investigation of
a rape - a Native American woman assaulted on sacred ground. As thirteen year old Joe attempts to understand and solve his mother’s violation, themes of truth,
honor, and integrity, as well as the harsh realities surrounding inequality and
power in America are exposed. I have always come
away from this writer’s books feeling that my perspective has been
enhanced, my
sensitivity to the human condition improved, my skill as a reader more
finely
honed. Reading this fine novel was no exception. Once again Erdrich
confirms herself as one of the leading voices of the Native American
experience, and why writer’s of fiction are universally so vital to us
all. ~
