Expresso Book Machine We are proud to be the first independent bookstore in the U.S., and only one of a few in the entire world, to have an Espresso Book Machine (EBM) on the premises. The EBM is a Print on Demand (POD) machine that enables affordable short-run publishing. The whole book is made right here — from printing to binding to trimming. (Click here to watch video).

Our imprint, Shires Press, offers a complete publishing package, as well as an extensive menu of optional quality upgrades and à la carte services, such as expanded paper and cover choices; professional editing, cover and/or text design, and technical support; as well as consultation on marketing and distribution. Shires Press can publish a beautiful paperback edition of your book that looks and feels like the real thing—because it is.

Whether it's a family memoir, a cookbook, a town history, a novel, a children's story, or anything else, we can get your book published in a short period of time for mere pennies per page. Whether you only want one book for yourself, or wish to sell your book widely, we can help. We don't have minimum quantities required and you don't have to be famous.

We are also able to publish our own premium paperback Northshire Press editions of great classic works that are out of copyright ("in the public domain"), including rare and out-of-print titles and books of local and regional interest.

And thanks to online archives offering free, unfettered access to hundreds of thousands of public—domain titles from all over the world—from the obscure, to the famous, to the infamous—we are able to produce high-quality Northshire Press Facsimile Editions, to literally "print on demand" to fulfill customer orders.

Our Espresso Book Machine is a patented fully integrated book-making machine that produces beautiful, high-quality, trade-sized paperback books in minutes. The EBM, supplied to us by On Demand Books of New York City, allows the Northshire Bookstore to lead the burgeoning "print on demand" movement in publishing.
