Northshire Bookstore
Print On Demand Services

We are proud to be the first independent bookstore in the U.S., and only one of a few in the entire world, to have an Espresso Book Machine (EBM) on the premises. The EBM is a Print on Demand (POD) machine that enables affordable short-run printing. The whole book is made right here — from printing to binding to trimming.

We serve authors of fiction, poetry, cookbooks, family genealogies, local histories, corporate reports, custom course textbooks — you name it. Our imprint, Shires Press, offers a complete printing package, as well as an extensive menu of optional quality upgrades and à la carte services, such as expanded paper and cover choices; professional editing, cover and/or text design, and technical support; as well as consultation on marketing and distribution.

Shires Press can print a beautiful paperback edition of your book that looks and feels like the real thing — because it is. Whether it's a family memoir, a cookbook, a town history, a novel, a children's story, or anything else, we can get your book published in a short period of time at an affordable cost. Whether you only want one book for yourself, or wish to sell your book widely, we can help. We don't have minimum quantities required and you don't have to be famous.

We have many active POD Titles, some already selling more than 250 copies since being published. Click Here to view some of them.

Want to join the growing ranks of self-published authors, contact our Print on Demand Coordinator, Debbi Wraga, at 802-362-3565, Ext. 117 for more details, or email her at dwraga@northshire.com for further information.

Here is what some of our early customers are saying:

  • "I enjoyed my experience with the Northshire's Print On Demand program. They were helpful and accommodating. They steered this new author through the process in a professional manner, the result being a most-satisfactory finished product."
—From Mary Beth Kennedy, author: From Shoebox to Saltbox

  • "In the Spring of 2008, my AP Language class wrote a collection of essays based on National Public Radio's This I Believe series. We received permission to publish them from the show's producers, and Northshire's wonderfully talented and professional staff guided us patiently through the process. The quality of our books is excellent, and the service that Northshire provides is outstanding. Our first edition of We Believe This was such a success that we plan on using Northshire Bookstore's Espresso Book Machine to publish an annual anthology of personal essays. Thank you, Northshire, for your commitment to quality, service, and the wonderful world of books!"
—From Frank Barnes, author, We Believe This and We Believe This Volume 2

  • "We are lucky to have Northshire's Print on Demand facility. From copy to finished book the Espresso Press staff and machine provide a fresh option for getting your work in print. The program offers efficient, knowledgeable, friendly service; attractive design and formatting solutions that help the customer whether beginner or old hand."
—From Stephen Sandy, author Netsuke Days
